York Professor Emeritus of psychology Michael P. Cowles died at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ont., on Tuesday, Aug. 21. He was 71.
Prof. Cowles' research interests included the history and development of statistics, and the science of personality and individual differences. He taught in the Brain, Behaviour & Cognitive Sciences (BBCS) area of the former Atkinson Department of Psychology, now part of York's Faculty of Health.
He was also affiliated with the History & Theory of Psychology Program, the only program of its kind in Canada available to students wishing to conduct specialized research on historical topics in psychology and in psychological theory and metatheory.
Prof. Cowles was the husband of Fiona and father of Richard and Maggie.
