The red-hot Lions men’s and women’s soccer teams return to York Stadium Sunday (1pm, 3:15pm) to begin season-ending three-game homestands. The Windsor Lancers will provide the opposition and 
they’ll be looking for revenge. The York men beat the Lancers, 4-2, in Windsor on Sunday to improve to 8-0-2 on the season, while the Lions women hammered Windsor, 5-0.
Lions goaltender Aurelea Gumiela (right) recorded two shutouts for York this weekend to lift the team’s record to 9-1.
The Lions football team also will make York Stadium its home this weekend. Coming off a dramatic 21-20 win over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues last weekend (see story in today’s YFile), the Lions (1-4) will play host to the Western Mustangs (1-4) on Saturday at 1pm. Stephen Grochot was the hero for York last 
week, booting a 36-yard field goal with less than a minute left to give the Lions the victory.
Meanwhile, the Lions women’s basketball team will travel to Barrie to play host to a special exhibition game against the Laurier Golden Hawks Wednesday, at 7pm, at St. Joan of Arc High School. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Led by returnees Emily Van Hoof (left), Brenan Rurak and Laura McCallum, the Lions are attempting to defend their Ontario University Athletics title this season.
All the other Lions games this week are on the road. The Lions women’s hockey team, coming off a season-opening 1-1 weekend, travels to London to face the Western Mustangs on Saturday at 4pm. The Lions women’s rugby team plays its season finale Friday at 1pm in Guelph against the Gryphons, while the Lions field hockey team heads downtown Friday to face the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at 2pm.
