York University’s 2007 United Way campaign gets off to a sweet start on Tuesday, Nov. 6 with the President’s Pancake Breakfast. This year’s campaign runs from Nov. 6 to Nov. 30 and organizers hope to raise $190,000.
See the flapjacks fly Tuesday during the President’s Pancake Breakfast. From 8:30 to 10:30am in the Sodexho Cafeteria in Central Square, Keele campus, you can enjoy a tasty start to the day and witness some flipping good fun. As an added bonus, you’ll have a chance to watch the culinary prowess of Mamdouh Shoukri, York’s president & vice-chancellor, as he learns the fine art of making pancakes and helps kick off his first United Way campaign as president of York. He’ll get some special instruction from this year’s Leadership Campaign co-chairs, marketing Professor Eileen Fischer of the Schulich School of Business and Naguib Gouda, executive director of Alumni & Advancement Services, and members of York’s administration team as they demonstrate their pancake-making skills. Everyone is invited to come out and help the campaign get off to a good start.

The need for support is great. The theme of this year’s campaign is "Show a Friend the Way". The United Way of Greater Toronto hopes to raise $108 million to help fund desperately needed community services.
"Let’s help them do it! Our campaign achievement grows from year to year, not by asking people to give more, rather, by asking more people to give," said Sue Levesque, York University Campaign Chair. "This year, we hope you will help raise our total number of campaign donors and show a friend the way."

The Atkinson United Way Bazaar takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 10am to 3pm in the East Bear Pit, Central Square, on the Keele campus. This event offers beautiful handcrafted items just in time for holiday shopping. Organizers are looking for vendors to take part in the sale. Cup-A-Soup Week, which takes place from Nov. 19 to 23, from 12 to 2pm (while supplies last) in Central Square on the Keele campus, is a very popular event. Hosted by the Offices of the President, the Vice-Presidents, the University Secretary & General Counsel, Alumni & Advancement Services and the York University Foundation, the Cup-A-Soup Week offers a cup of vegetarian or traditional soup and roll for just $3. The soup is donated by Petal Foods, operators of the Atkinson Cafeteria (Michelangelo’s).
Clean out your closet to benefit the United Way. The second annual York University Clothing Swap for the United Way will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 12 to 2pm, at The Underground Restaurant in the Student Centre on the Keele campus. Practice an environmentally friendly way of restocking your closet and reduce your contribution to landfills. Bring clean, modern, gently worn and new items you no longer wear or use and then swap and take home your favourites.

If you are interested in participating in the clothing swap, bring a minimum of three clean, new or gently worn modern adult clothing, shoes and accessories (belts or purses) that you no longer wear to The Underground between 8 and 9:30am. Then return between 12 and 2pm, and for a $5 entrance fee, you can try on a variety of outfits. If you love it, it is yours!The $5 entrance fee will go to the United Way. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity. If you would like to participate, visit the York University Clothing Swap for the United Way Web site to register.
