The 2006-2007 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship banner has been raised and the first win has been recorded. Now, it’s time for the York Lions women’s basketball team to get down to business as it hits the road for a pair of weekend games against 1-1 teams – the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers.
Right: A proud moment as York’s OUA championship banner is revealed
The 1-0 women, who beat the Laurentian Voyageurs 54-51 in their season opener Saturday night at the Tait McKenzie Centre, will meet the Mustangs on Nov. 9 at 6pm. The following day will see the Lions head to Windsor for a visit with the Lancers. Game time on Nov. 10 is 6pm.
Joining them for their road swing will be the York men’s basketball team, who are set to kick off their 2007-2008 campaign. After a season-opening match-up with the Mustangs on Nov. 9 at 8pm, the Lions will face the defending OUA champion Lancers on Nov. 10 at 8pm.
The 2-2 men’s volleyball team will look to continue its recent hot streak after going 2-0 in a pair of weekend games against the Toronto Varsity Blues and Ryerson Rams. The Lions will return home to the Tait McKenzie Centre, the site of their 3-0 triumph over the Blues on Friday night, for a pair of games against the Queen’s Golden Gaels on Nov. 10 at 2pm. They face the RMC Paladins on Nov. 11, game time is 2pm.
The 2-1 women’s volleyball team, meanwhile, have proven themselves to be road warriors, going 2-0 away from the Tait McKenzie Centre this season. They will look to improve upon their 0-1 home record this weekend when they host the Golden Gaels on Nov. 10 at 2pm, and the RMC Paladins on Nov. 11, at 12pm.
In some upcoming on-ice action, the York Lions men’s hockey team (3-1-0-3) will attempt to work its way up the OUA Midwest division standings, as it hosts the Lakehead Thunderwolves in a pair of back-to-back games. Games are set for Nov. 9, at 7pm and Nov. 10, at 2pm. York still has yet to be held without a point on home ice, going 1-0-0-3.
The York Lions women’s hockey team, who are 6-4 on the season, are hoping to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Varsity Blues with a visit to Windsor to take on the Lancers on Nov. 10, at 4pm.
Finally, in the pool, the 2-2 York Lions men’s water polo team is at McMaster this weekend to host the Carleton Ravens on Nov. 10, at 7:15pm, in its final game prior to the OUA play-offs.
The women’s water polo team will wrap up their season at McMaster with a pair of Sunday games against the Queen’s Golden Gaels on Nov. 11, at 10:45am, followed by a game later the same day against the Ravens at 3:45pm.
