Political thinker, anarchist, philosopher, author, lecturer, critic and social activist – those are just some of the terms used to describe one of America's best-known linguistic professors.
The oft-quoted scholar and intellectual has lectured on a wide variety of controversial topics, including 9/11, US foreign policy, war crimes and religion. On Friday, Nov. 9, he will deliver a live lecture on current world issues via video conference to York. It will be held from 2:15 to 3:45pm in the Burton Auditorium on York's Keele campus. A question and answer session will follow.
Right Noam Chomsky
Born in 1928, Chomsky is a professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he has taught in the Department of Linguistics & Philosophy since 1955. It was at MIT that he developed the theory of generative grammar, considered a major contribution to the field of linguistics.
His influence has infiltrated the realms of psychology, philosophy and politics, and he continues to be an active lecturer.
