Glendon will host panels on Quebec-Ontario and Quebec-Ontario-US relations Thursday as part of a conference organized by the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS) being held in 
Toronto this week.
Panellists include high-level government policy-makers, academics – including Glendon Principal Kenneth McRoberts (left) – and civil servants from Ontario and Quebec.
ACSUS was founded in 1971 to improve the American understanding of Canada and holds a conference every two years to exchange ideas. The theme of this year’s conference is Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Exemplar for the 21st Century.
The 2007 Toronto biennial conference runs from Nov. 14 to 18 and takes place mostly at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.
The two panels hosted by Glendon on Thursday, Nov. 15, are:
- Ontario-Quebec Interprovincial Relations, 3-4:30pm. Panellists are Yves Castonguay, assistant secretary, Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes, Government of Quebec; Ontario MPP Jean-Marc Lalonde; Wendy Noble, assistant deputy
minister, intergovernmental policy coordination, Ontario Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs; and Glendon Principal Kenneth McRoberts. - Ontario-Quebec-U.S. Economic Relations, 4:30-6pm. Panellists are retired Laval University political scientist Louis Balthazar, president of the Centre for US Studies and Raoul-Dandurand Chair in Strategic and Diplomatic Studies, University of Quebec; Malika Dehraoui, Toronto economic affairs director for the Government of Quebec; Michael Kergin (right), former special adviser on border issues to the premier of Ontario and former Canadian ambassador to the United States; and Daniel Schwanen, chief operating officer and research director, Centre for International Governance Innovation, a non-profit and non-partisan research institute located in Waterloo.
Both sessions will be held in the BMO Conference Centre, main floor, Glendon Hall, on York’s Glendon campus. A reception will follow from 6 to 8pm.
