Women's hockey Lions are ready for their biggest game of the season

The York Lions women’s hockey team can take a huge step toward clinching their first playoff spot since 2003, Friday, at 7pm, at Canlan Ice Sports on York’s Keele campus.

The Lions play host to the Western Mustangs in a critical game for both teams that night. The Lions are two points ahead of the Mustangs for the sixth and final playoff spot in their Ontario University Athletics (OUA) division. York has four games left, while the Mustangs have three.

Also on campus this weekend, the Lions men’s volleyball team returns home after a long January road swing for a key contest against the Western Mustangs on Sunday at 2pm. The Lions are tied with Ryerson for the final playoff spot in the OUA, though the Rams have a match in hand.

The other sporting event at York this weekend is the York Track & Field Classic, which runs all day Saturday at the Toronto Track & Field Centre.

This past weekend, York played host to a very successful Staff, Faculty & Alumni Night during the Lions’ basketball doubleheader against the University of Toronto. A packed house was treated to a riveting battle for first place in the OUA East women’s standings as York held on to beat the Varsity Blues 73-70.
