Recruiting outstanding students from out of province to York's Osgoode Hall Law School has proven difficult in the last few years without a residence dedicated to law students, but that has all changed. Osgoode has heeded the advice of students and created Osgoode Chambers – a student residence exclusively for law students.
Come September 2008, Osgoode undergraduate and graduate students will have a place of their own, across the street from the law school in a group of dedicated townhouses in the Passy Gardens housing complex.

"In recent years, we have found it increasingly challenging to recruit outstanding students from outside Ontario. When we asked out-of-province students what we could do to attract more of them, they suggested an exclusive residence for Osgoode students would make a major difference," says Patrick Monahan, dean of Osgoode Hall Law School.

The new residence will face onto a courtyard and feature the Owls' Nest lounge, where law students can kick back, relax and socialize. The residence will offer furnished bachelor and one-bedroom townhouse suites with self-contained kitchens and bathrooms along with wireless internet.
Incoming first-year students will be guaranteed accommodation at Osgoode Chambers for the full three years of study as long as they hold a continuous 12-month lease. Students will also have the option of an eight-month lease if they want the first year only at Osgoode Chambers. Should there be any remaining units after incoming first-year students have had their pick, they will be allocated to our upper-year students on a first-come, first-served basis.
In announcing Osgoode Chambers, Monahan has already begun calling it "the O.C."
Osgoode Chambers was created through the offices of Mike Markicevic, York’s assistant vice-president, Campus Services & Business Operations.
