The Student-Alumni Mentorship Program, one of the most successful programs run by Atkinson's Student & Alumni Relations (STARS) Unit, is looking for alumni from the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies who are currently working at York to become mentors.
STARS is holding its next information session about the program from 6:30-7:30pm on Wednesday, June 18 in the Harry Leith Room, 004 Atkinson Building.
More than 430 Atkinson students in the last five years have gained insight into their potential career, their personal life and what to expect once they graduate by being paired with a mentor. The program has attracted participants from a variety of disciplines, including information technology, marketing, social sciences and human resources.
Alumni mentors and students are matched based on their interests and their career paths and usually have the change to meet before deciding on the best approach for keeping in touch, whether that's through e-mail, the phone or in person. The students have found the program helpful in a variety of ways from setting career goals and searching for a job, to writing better resumés, improving their interview skills, overcoming workplace challenges and knowing what to expect once they graduate.
Additional Student-Alumni Mentorship Program sessions will run on July 16 and Aug. 13.
For more information or to register for one of the sessions, visit the STARS Web site or call Franz Branschat at ext. 20012.
