A delegation of more than 100 high-level industry and government officials from India are taking part in a business conference this afternoon at York University’s Schulich School of Business. The conference will explore bilateral trade and investment opportunities, including joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions.
The trade mission, known as India Calling 2008, has been organized by the Indian Merchants Chamber, a leading business organization based in Mumbai, India. Previous stops for India Calling have included London, Singapore and Dubai, and past missions have resulted in increased trade between India and the host country.
The Schulich conference will feature opening remarks from Mamdouh Shoukri (left), York president & vice-chancellor, and Dezsö J. Horváth (right), dean of the Schulich School of Business. The keynote address, titled "The Canadian Economy in a Global Context", will be delivered by David Mckay, group head, Canadian Banking, Royal Bank of Canada.
The conference will explore business opportunities in healthcare, finance, media & entertainment, sustainability, technology commercialization and agri-foods. Panelists include faculty from the Schulich school and executives from major Canadian companies.
Today’s conference will run from 1 to 3:30pm in the Robert R. McEwen Auditorium in the Seymour Schulich Building on York’s Keele campus.
Schulich has had an on-the-ground presence in India since 2005, when it established a satellite centre in Mumbai. (See the April 14, 2005 issue of YFile.) The Mumbai Satellite Centre recruits top-flight Indian students to the school’s undergraduate and graduate programs; assists Schulich students and alumni with career planning and career opportunities in the booming Indian economy; provides executive and leadership development programming for Indian executives; and supports Schulich’s alumni chapters in India.
