Lew finishes as runner-up at national championship

Mikhail Lew of the York Lions tennis team had an outstanding performance at the College & University National Championships this past weekend (July 25-26), finishing second in the event at the Rexall Centre at York University.

The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star advanced to the final of the eight-player tournament, which took place during the Rogers Cup pro event, before losing 6-4, 6-3 against defending champion Graeme Kassautzki of the University of New Mexico.

Meanwhile, Joelle Fisher of the Lions tennis team won her first-round match in the women’s draw before being eliminated in the semi-finals. Taylor Ormond of Baylor University, Texas, beat Montreal's Stephanie Roy 6-1, 6-2 in the women’s final.

Fisher and Lew will be back with the Lions for the 2008 OUA season. The Lions open the season Sept. 10 against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
