York University, the University of Toronto and Ryerson University announce that the University Sports Report will return to THE FAN 590 AM for a second season in 2008-2009.
Airing Sundays at 9am, the half-hour show focusing on athletics at Toronto’s three universities will kick off its second season on Aug. 31 with long-time Toronto Star sports reporter David Grossman returning as host. With the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) football season kicking off on Labour Day, Grossman will be joined on the first show by U of T Varsity Blues interim head football coach Greg DeLaval and York Lions head coach Mike McLean.
"We’re very pleased to provide our listeners with a weekly Sunday morning program that blankets the very competitive, and often controversial, university sports scene in Toronto," said Nelson Millman, vice-president & general manager of THE FAN 590. "Whether it’s through interviews with student athletes, coaches, alumni or administrators, host David Grossman knows the university sports scene and raises the issues and highlights at three of the largest universities in the country."
The first season of the University Sports Report featured 20 episodes, including a special one-hour season finale with Toronto’s three university presidents including York President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri, Ryerson’s Sheldon Levy and David Naylor of the University of Toronto.
The show tackles all the major issues facing Toronto’s OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) representatives and highlights the top athletes and coaches at each university. The weekly show will run for the entire 2008-2009 CIS/OUA season.
Listeners also can catch the show on THE FAN 590 Web site.
