Amirali Jasani, owner of the Gateway Cigar Store in the Student Centre

Amirali Jasani, owner of the Gateway Cigar Store in York’s Student Centre, died on Aug. 25 at 62. Mr. Jasani suffered a heart attack and died at home. A proud father of two, Mr. Jasani leaves his children Ziad and Khalid. His wife Mumtaz Jasani predeceased him.

A fixture on York’s Keele campus, Mr. Jasani is described by friends and colleagues as a devoted father and friend who was compassionate and religious. He operated his business on York’s Keele campus for more than two decades.

The funeral service for Mr. Jasani will be held from 12 to 1pm at the Scarborough Jamatkhana, 695 Middlefield Road, Scarborough. The funeral service will be followed by the burial service, from 1:30 to 2:30pm at 160 Beecroft Road, North York, at the York Cemetery, Section #19. In accordance with Mr. Jasani’s religion, only men can participate in the burial. For guests not attending the burial, the family has arranged for a brunch, from 1:30 to 4pm, at the Novotel Hotel, 3 Park Home Avenue, North York.

The family has requested that instead of flowers a small donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in the name of Ali Jasani  would be appreciated.
