The York University Staff Association and York University began negotiations on June 8, 2008. The existing collective agreement expired on July 31, 2008.
The parties continued to negotiate and on Aug. 15, the union applied for the appointment of a conciliation officer. The meetings with the conciliator took place on Aug. 27 and 28, and the parties continued to meet day and night until Aug. 30.
During the early hours of Aug. 30, the York University Staff Association and York University reached a memorandum of agreement subject to ratification by both parties.
The York University Staff Association will hold a ratification meeting with the membership on Thursday, Sept. 4. Details of the meeting are as follows:

Details of the memorandum of agreement will be given out at this meeting and will not be made public until the conclusion of this meeting.
