Ontario Textbook & Technology Grant to assist full-time students

York University students can now take advantage of the Textbook & Technology Grant (TTG), a new program offered by the Province of Ontario, that was officially launched yesterday by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities. The program, designed to assist full-time students with textbook and computer costs, offers an annual grant to students enrolled full time in an Ontario community college or university.

In the 2008-2009 academic year, the grant is $150. The annual grant will increase to $300 per year once the program is fully implemented.

To be eligible, a student must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a protected person. For more details on eligibility, visit the Government of Ontario's OSAP Web site.

Full-time community college and university students who apply for OSAP for 2008-2009 will automatically be considered for the grant. Any eligible full-time student who is not receiving OSAP can also apply for the grant by filling out a short online application for the Textbook & Technology Grant. To apply, visit the OSAP Web site.

Students studying for one term only must submit their application within the first 30 days of the study period. Students studying for two or three terms, must apply no later than 90 days before the end of their study period.

The Textbook & Technology Grant is administered by Ontario's Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities. Students receive their cheques directly from the ministry. This program is not administered by York University and the grant will not be reflected on York statements.

Once they have applied, students can view the status of their application on the Ontario OSAP Web site.

For more information on the program or for the status of an application, contact the ministry’s toll-free TTG help line at 1-877-884-4310.
