Monday, Sept. 22 is national Car Free Day. To celebrate and raise awareness, Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan, in partnership with York University's Transportation Services, is holding a Bike-to-School lunch on York's Keele campus.

The event will take place outside the William Small Centre on Campus Walk from 11am to 1pm. Enjoy lunch courtesy of Aramark catering and learn more about cycling at York:
- Drop by with your bicycle for a free tune-up and get advice on maintenance.
- Get important bike safety and security advice from Toronto Police and York Security – register your bicycle on the spot.
- Learn more about the City of Toronto's Bike Plan, bike routes and other Toronto cycling initiatives from the City of Toronto cycling team.
The first 35 cyclists to stop by will get a Smart Commute cycling T-shirt as an expression of thanks for keeping the air clean. Those who pledge to go car free receive a chance to win great prizes including a Nintendo Wii and a set of Cordura Bicycle Panniers.
Whether you're a regular cyclist or are curious to learn more about this healthier and greener travel option, choosing to commute by bike instead of the car for just one day a week will reduce your transportation greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent.
In addition, York University Transportation Services; Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan; and the City of Toronto's cycling staff are celebrating the opening of the new Pond Road bike lane Sept. 22, from 1 to 3pm, at the corner of Pond Rd. and Sentinel Rd.
