Buena Fe, Cuba’s most popular band, is performing tomorrow in Winters College Dining Hall from 6 to 8pm as part of a Canadian tour of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
The band fuses the island’s traditional musical styles, such as trova (ballads) and salsa, with a more contemporary pop sound and the beats and rhythms of the Caribbean. They often perform with Buena Vista Social Club regulars such as Eliades Ochoa and sell out concerts in Cuba and on tour in Europe and Latin America.
Buena Fe was named best pop act for four consecutive years at the Cuban Music Awards. In 2007, it won best pop rock album for Presagios. Several songs on their latest 2008 CD Catalejo have made the top 10 on Cuban and Latin American radio and TV stations.
To attend the free York concert, RSVP to wcmaster@yorku.ca or call 416-650-8199.
Buena Fe is also playing a benefit concert for hurricane relief Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cerveceria, 842 College St., at 9:30pm. Admission is $20.
