Founders College will unveil a memorial site Oct. 17 to honour Harvey Mandel and Patricia Swanson, two long-standing members of the college’s community.
The Harvey Mandel and Patricia Swanson Memorial features a plaque and two benches set in the courtyard between the college and its residence. Founders raised funds for the memorial over the summer.
The memorial site will be unveiled Oct. 17 during a commemorative ceremony from 1:30 to 3:30pm. Community members interested in attending the ceremony should RSVP their attendance to Samira Malakpour at msamira@yorku.ca.
A popular faculty member, Mandel taught psychology at York University up until his sudden death from a heart attack on Sept. 14, 2004 (see YFile, Sept. 15, 2004).
Patricia Swanson, an administrative assistant in Founders College, died on Feb. 13, 2008 following a brief illness (see YFile, Feb. 19).
