Longtime York faculty member Dyanne Gibson, Division of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 19. She was 75.
Ms. Gibson began teaching at York in 1974 in Atkinson College, later moving to the Faculty of Arts and the Concepts of Canadian Culture Seneca/York Program.
Over the years she has visited and researched every university in Canada. Her annually revised guides to Canadian universities, including Gibson’s Student Guide to Ontario Universities and Gibson’s Student Guide to Western Canadian Universities have aided students in selecting the most appropriate university and program.
Ms. Gibson had a true passion for teaching, downhill skiing and gardening and a love of life. She was the wife of James Gordon Gibson and mother to James Peter Herbert Gibson (wife Sue), David Ayres Gibson and Mary Suzanne Gibson (husband Keith Sutcliffe).
A funeral service for Ms. Gibson will be held at 1pm today at Trull Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge St. (at Alexandra Blvd., five streets south of Lawrence Avenue) in Toronto. For more information, call the funeral home at 416-488-1101. There is no prior visitation.
