York statement: ‘Does CUPE 3903 really want to settle this dispute?’

York University last night issued a new Negotiations Update, describing a meeting held yesterday between the University, CUPE Local 3903 and a government mediator. Expressing "strong disappointment," the University says the union failed to present a promised framework proposal and did not amend any of its 150 outstanding demands or previous economic proposals.

The statement says: "The mediator advised both parties that in his assessment, there would be no productive use in further meetings at this time."

CUPE Local 3903, which represents teaching assistants, contract faculty and graduate assistants at York University, has been on strike since Nov. 6.
