The York University Retirees Association (YURA) and the Association for Retired Faculty & Librarians (ARFL) are collaborating on a joint U50 project to develop a collection of reflections, recollections and reminiscences of York retirees that are relevant to York's history. Organizers are hoping to present the aggregated materials to the York Archives at a reception planned for May 7, 2009.
All York retirees are invited to participate in the joint YURA/ARFL 50th anniversary project that highlights the theme of the University as a community. Submissions that show York's community are encouraged by organizers and can take the form of favourite memories of York, experiences at the University, recollections of historic moments, examples of generational affiliations, then and now comparisons, and the extension of the work and learning environment to other arenas.
The deadline for submission of materials to the YURA or ARFL offices is Jan. 15, 2009. Retirees' photos, letters, programs, memos, videos, tapes and/or written narratives can be submitted to the project. If sending a written narrative, organizers ask that submissions be brief, no more than eight double-spaced pages, and submissions may be singly or jointly authored.
Any questions about the project should be directed to either ARFL at amurray@yorku.ca or YURA at yura@yorku.ca. Retirees are also welcome to direct their queries to the YURA office, either in person or by letter to:
