"Ecopoetics and the City" is the intriguing title of a special event taking place tonight at 7pm at the CAMERA, a trendy Queen Street West bar at 1028 Queen St. W., in the heart of Toronto’s art and design district.
The event, which is open to York community members, marks the launch of a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education edited by York English Professor Rishma Dunlop. "Art, Literature, and Place: An Ecopoetics Reader", is the title of this special issue Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
It features a critical introduction by Dunlop as well as contributions of essays, poetry, photography and visual art by numerous interdisciplinary York University faculty, graduate researchers and alumni. Editorial assistance was provided by York PhD students Katherine Bell and Pariss Garramone. Additional Canadian and international contributors include: Ian MacCrae, Di Brandt, Wanda Hurren, Vivian Hansen, Suzanne Northcott, Lynn Fels, Deema Shehabi, Ann Fisher Wirth, Ann E. Michaels, Rebecca Lawton, Margo Berdeshevsky and Richard Brock.
The launch features readings by contributors to the journal, a film screening of Pelq’ilc by York Professor Celia Haig-Brown and Helen Haig-Brown, and a photography exhibition by York alumnus Joe Paczuski (BEd ’02).
