The Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) anticipates next Thursday will be a tappin’ good time when a stellar lineup of emerging and established artists get together for TAP in Words, a spoken word and music fundraiser for the Turn Around Projects (TAP) and a celebration to wrap up international poetry month.
TAP in Words promises to get everyone rockin’ to the rhythm of music and groovin’ to the beats of dub on April 30 at 7pm in the AGYU, 116 Accolade East Building, Keele campus. Admission is pay-what-you-can.
The evening will feature performances by Emilee Barrington, Michelle Bellerose, Marita Dinaj, Georgia Fox, Jay Haslam, Sarah Hiltz, Jacelyn Holmes, Nancy Kamalanathan (see YFile, May 26, 2008), Lola Lawson, Andrea Ramautar, and Michael St. George as well as a screening of the 2005 documentary T.A.P. Jamaica, directed by Zach Smith and James Pettinger.
Tap into the future by donating money to TAP to help support its efforts to finance scholarships for two students wanting to pursue postsecondary studies at the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica.
Help TAP break new ground by contributing to its building fund. Donations will help make a much-needed integrated arts facility for youth in Portland, Jamaica, a reality. Housing TAP"s educational and recreational programs, the new building will be equipped with a theatre, visual arts facilities, recording studios, a computer lab/resource centre as well as a gymnasium. Construction is expected to begin in 2011.
TAP is committed to bringing integrated arts programming to youth in Jamaica and other parts of the world in an effort to generate social change and support community building. For more information, visit the Turn Around Projects Web site.
