Schulich forms partnership with Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario

York’s Schulich School of Business has partnered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) in launching the innovative CA-Schulich Alliance for Accounting Research and Professional Competencies. This achievement was recognized at a presentation at Schulich on May 11.

The CA-Schulich Alliance for Accounting Research and Professional Competencies is an initiative of Schulich with funding support from the ICAO. Its mission is to promote accounting research in interdisciplinary areas and teaching activities within Schulich.

“The alliance will help enhance the excellence of our accounting programs and the quality of faculty research,” said Dezsö J. Horváth, dean of the Schulich School of Business. “A large number of our undergraduate students have traditionally chosen accounting as a career path. We are proud of their achievements over the years – many hold senior positions within major organizations, while others have launched successful enterprises.”

As part of its mandate, the alliance will engage in scholarly activities and research that will advance, illuminate and critique the role of accounting practices and institutions in business, markets and society.

“The Institute chose to partner in the CA-Schulich Alliance for Accounting Research and Professional Competencies as part of its initiative to accredit accounting programs in Ontario’s top business and accounting schools, which includes funding support for innovation in accounting research and education,” said Brian Leader, co-acting president & CEO and vice-president of learning at the ICAO.

The initial funding amount for the CA-Schulich Alliance is $34,000 per year. The ICAO is the qualifying and regulatory body of Ontario's more than 33,000 chartered accountants and 5,000 chartered accountant students.
