York University Transportation Services teamed up with Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan last month to promote Pollution Probe’s Clean Air Commute campaign and the results are in. York’s Clean Air Commuters reduced 1,530,040 grams of smog.

Students, staff and faculty all took part to make sure the week was a hit, but it was Edward Ciantar (left), from York’s Security Services, who was this year’s winner of the Raleigh bicycle.
Participants got involved by trying an alternative method of commuting to campus for one week, June 22 to 26. People walked, biked, took transit, carpooled, teleworked or tuned up their vehicles. In total, over 130 people Clean Air Commuted to York, a number almost three times higher than last year.
In addition, York was among the top 50 employers who reduced their emissions the most this year. All together, workplaces in the North Toronto, Vaughan area reduced smog by 24 tonnes, proving nothing is possible.
