Football, basketball on Labour Day weekend schedule

The 2009-2010 season officially begins this weekend when the York University Lions football team plays its season opener on Monday, Sept. 7. The football squad will face the Windsor Lancers at 1pm at York Stadium.

Also playing for the first time this season is the men’s basketball team, which is ready for an exhibition game in the evening on Saturday, Sept. 5. The team will play its annual contest against a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I school, this year the University of Tennesse at Chattanooga Mocs, at 8pm at Tait McKenzie Centre.

Students are returning to school this weekend and will be fired up for a new season of competition in interuniversity sport, promising a fun, electric atmosphere at both games.

Tickets are free for all York students with a valid YU-card. For everyone else wanting to attend the games, tickets can be purchased at the door. Adult tickets are $8 each, non-York students and seniors are $5, and children 12 and under are free.

Don’t miss being part of the action when intense battles are played on the gridiron and the hard court.
