Modern retelling of Aladdin, Secondary Wishes, hits York stage tonight

Vanier College Productions’ new season will hit the stage tonight with a workshopped production of Secondary Wishes, an original musical comedy.

Secondary Wishes is written by York alumnus Tom Kerr (BA Spec. Hons. ’05) and directed by Jean-Paul Yovanoff. It is a modern retelling of the old (pre-Disney) Aladdin story, where a young man’s life is thrown into turmoil by his use of wishes to achieve success the easy way.

The play runs until Oct. 24 at 8pm in the Fred Thury Studio Theatre, 258 Vanier College, Keele campus. Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets call the Fred Thury Studio Box Office at ext. 40023.

Next, Vanier College Productions will present the co-production of two one-act plays by Daniel MacIvor, Nov. 11 to 14, followed by a series of student-written one-act plays in late January. The musical Reefer Madness will be performed March 3 to 13.

In addition, the Vanier Improv Company is up and ready to perform on a regular basis through the year. Performance dates to be announced.
