There are only a few days left to write or text Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan suggestions on how to green Toronto’s commute. It’s free to enter and the winner receives a trip for two to Montreal.
Torontonians are showing how passionate they are about going clean and green. Commuters have had some unusual and occasionally extraordinary answers to how Toronto’s traffic-ridden, smog-filled commute could become more eco-friendly.
Here’s a sampling of some of the most creative responses thus far:
- “Put ‘green’ grass mats on top of TTC & other public transit buses. These Wheel Lawns would clean the air, reduce temperature & absorb pollution.” – M.S.
- “People owning cottages must leave the city by Friday morning at 6am lessens Friday traffic and idling time.” – D.B.
- “Declare a Toronto Green Commuters’ Day: a city-wide holiday for all carpoolers, TTC riders & cyclists!” – M.S.
- “Make reusable travel mugs the only coffee allowed on GO Transit & TTC. Cushion the transition with free morning coffee with travel mug!” – J.H.
- “Redecorate 10 per cent of the buses and subway cars with a going green theme. Have really comfortable green seats.” – A.H.
These are just a few of the frequently entertaining and occasionally enlightening answers Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan has received in response to this second stage of their Green People campaign.
After the completion of the youth segment of its Green People campaign (a drawing challenge that asked 1,500 campers across the city to submit their green ways of getting somewhere, including school, camp or the grocery store), Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan turned its focus to community members in Toronto and beyond.
Having already received hundreds of responses, it seems there is no shortage of positive and constructive ways to help make Toronto’s commute greener. The contest ends Oct. 31.
