Rob Tiffin reappointed as York's vice-president students

York University President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has reappointed Rob Tiffin as vice-president students for the next five years. The appointment for the new term, which was made after extensive consultation, was approved by the Board of Governors yesterday and is effective July 1, 2010.

“I want to thank VP Tiffin for the leadership he has shown in this important and demanding position over the past five years, and I have every confidence that his decades of experience in postsecondary education will continue to serve York’s students well in the years ahead,” said Shoukri.

Given that the academic experience is a major component of the student experience, Tiffin will now report to the Vice-President Academic & Provost on all matters except Sport & Recreation, on which he will report directly to the President. Tiffin will continue to be a member of the President/Vice-Presidents group.

Tiffin has served as York's vice-president of students since 2005. He was formerly assistant vice-president enrolment management and registrar at York. In his first term as vice-president, Tiffin has overseen a renewal of York’s colleges; improved services for students with disabilities, including the creation of the alternative examination centre; the introduction of full-time residence life coordinators; and the development of York’s Student Code of Conduct.

With over 30 years of experience in recruitment, admissions, retention and student affairs matters in postsecondary education, Tiffin has a thorough understanding of the importance of having an integrated approach to supporting students and faculty to enhance the student experience at York. Prior to coming to York, he served as the associate vice-president student services at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont.
