What’s the connection between language, sex and gender? Deborah Cameron, the Rupert Murdoch Professor of Language & Communication in the Faculty of English at the University of Oxford in the UK, will address that question at a lecture at York in the new year.
“Sex on the Brain: Language, Sex/Gender and the New Biologism”, presented by York’s Graduate Program in Linguistics & Applied Linguistics, will take place Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, from 5 to 6pm in 
the Schulich School of Business Private Dining Hall in the Seymour Schulich Building, Keele campus.

Cameron is a leading scholar in the areas of discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, language and gender, and language and sexuality. She is the author of numerous books, including On Language and Sexual Politics 
(Routledge, 2006), Good to Talk? Living and Working in a Communication Culture (Sage Publications, 2000), Verbal Hygiene (Routledge, 1995) and Feminism & Linguistic Theory (Palgrave Macmillan, 1985).
She is also the co-author of Language and Sexuality (Cambridge University Press, 2003), co-editor of The Language and Sexuality Reader (Routledge, 2006) and editor of The Feminist Critique of Language: A Reader (Routledge, 1998).
