Dear members of the York community:
February is Black History Month – a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of black Canadians who have done so much to help build the Canada we know today.
At York, a number of events have been planned in honour of Black History Month, beginning with the International Research Film Festival: Slavery, Memory, Heritage & Contemporary Forms, which runs until Friday, Feb. 5.
York University is fortunate to be a community of communities, a place that reflects the diversity of our city and our nation. I want to encourage the community to take part in the events on campus that honour the legacy of black Canadians and help teach us about the vital role this community has played throughout our history. .
For more information about the events planned for Black History Month, please visit the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African Peoples Web site.
Sincerely,
Mamdouh Shoukri
