Prophetic paradigm in the Qur’an subject of next York-Noor talk

In the next talk in the 2009-2010 York-Noor Lecture Series, University of Toronto religion Professor Walid Saleh will look at the prophetic paradigm in the Qur’an.

Born in Colombia but raised in Lebanon, Saleh researches topics that include commentaries on the Qur’an and early Qur’an codices. His talk, "The Prophetic Paradigm in the Qur’an: Moses and Jesus", will take place Monday, Feb. 8, from 11:30am to 2:30pm, in the Vanier Senior Common Room, 010 Vanier College, Keele campus.

At the American University of Beirut, Saleh studied Arabic literature and language. Then at Yale University he took Islamic studies, looking at the Qur’an and its exegesis in medieval Islamic civilization.

Saleh is the author of The Formation of the Classical Tafsir Tradition: The Qur’an Commentary of al-Tha`labi (Brill Academic Publishers Inc., 2004) and In Defense of the Bible: A Critical Edition and an Introduction to al-Biqa`i’s Bible Treatise (Brill Academic Publishers Inc., 2008).
