YorkFest, the annual concert and consumer exhibition for students, has grown into a weeklong affair in this, its 15th year.
In cooperation with the York Federation of Students, the Underground and the York Student Centre, YorkFest will be mounting eight days of Welcome Week events.

The major concert event on Wednesday, with US headline act N.E.R.D, has been moved to Downsview Park. There will be a free shuttle service leaving from Vari Hall. Other acts include Isis, Keys N Krates and last year’s Battle of the Bands winner Cool Man Cool. Earlier in the day, starting at 10am, students can take in the YorkFest Village with exhibitors along the length of Campus Walk and end up at a barbecue in Vanier field.
The schedule kicked off this past Wednesday with a welcome breakfast in Vari Hall and continues this weekend with the annual Red & Blue Bowl game between the York Lions and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at U of T.
Next week’s events include Monday’s Outdoor Movie Night on a 25-foot screen featuring The A-Team in Vanier Field and Dirty Bingo at the Underground on Tuesday night.
The whole party winds up on Thursday with the YorkFest Welcome Week Pub Night in the Underground – an all-ages licensed event. This year, students can also take in a night of feasting and jousting on Friday, Sept. 24, at Medieval Times, Exhibition Place, for a special student price of $20.
As in past years, the concert is a closed event, open only to York students, including Glendon, Seneca @ York and alumni. Each York member will be allowed one guest to the concert.
