Gregory TardiOsgoode Hall Law School grad Gregory Tardi (DJur ’10), senior parliamentary counsel in the Office of the Law Clerk and parliamentary counsel in the House of Commons, will give a lecture titled “Patterns and Scenarios in Political Law” at York on Thursday, Nov. 11.

“Patterns and Scenarios in Political Law” will consider the relationship of law and politics as one of the foundations of democratic rule of law. It will observe that, while there is much commentary about individual instances in which government or states are alleged to be in breach of the rule of law, there is little effort to understand the general patterns of behaviour of governments and states in this regard. Tardi will examine such patterns in an effort to help us better understand current public life.

Tardi provides advice on constitutional law, and on the law and custom of Parliament to the Speaker of the House of Commons, to the Board of Internal Economy, to all members of the House of Commons and to the House administration.

Tardi currently teaches in the Faculty of Law at McGill University and has taught courses at Carleton University in Ottawa as well as at the University of British Columbia. He has lectured throughout Canada, the US and internationally. His books include The Legal Framework of Government: A Canadian Guide, The Law of Democratic Governing; Governing – Principles and The Law of Democratic Governing – Jurisprudence. Tardi has also published several dozen book chapters and journal articles and recently received his juris doctorate from York’s Osgoode Hall Law School.
