Police probe two robberies involving guns at south end of Keele campus

The Toronto Police Service and York Security Services are investigating two separate incidents in which York students were robbed and threatened late Wednesday night at the south end of the Keele campus.

At approximately 11pm on Dec. 8, a male student in the courtyard of 14 Passy Gardens was approached by two males who requested directions and asked to use his cell phone. The two took his cell phone. One suspect also displayed a gun and threatened the student. The two suspects fled toward The Pond Road and were picked up by a third suspect in a white, four-door vehicle, which drove westbound on The Pond Road.

The suspects in the first robbery were described to police as:

  • male, black, 5-foot-9, medium build, in his mid 20s, wearing a black sweater with a hoodie.
  • male, South Asian, 5-foot-9 , medium build, in his mid 20s, wearing a light coloured coat.

The second robbery occurred soon after at 11:15pm. A male student was walking westbound on The Pond Road when a white vehicle pulled up beside him. One of the vehicle occupants asked to use his cell phone. One of the suspects reportedly pointed a gun at the student and threatened to harm him. The student’s iPhone was taken.

Descriptions of the suspects were similar to those in the first incident.  The Toronto Police Service interviewed both complainants.
