Northwest Gate access to Keele campus will close starting Monday

Members of the York community who use the Northwest Gate entrance on Steeles Avenue West to enter the wider Keele campus should note that as of Monday, Jan. 31, the through road will be closed. Only a parking lot entry point near Steeles will be accessible for a short time.

The Northwest Gate road through to Ian Macdonald Boulevard will be converted into a new temporary parking lot that will be constructed down the centre of Northwest Gate. The temporary lot will provide a replacement for the current Northwest Gate pay-and-display parking lot during the upcoming tunnel excavation and construction of the Steeles West Subway Station.

Approximately 140 pay-and-display parking spots will be provided. Vehicle access to the lots will be available from Ian Macdonald Boulevard.

Construction of the temporary parking lot is expected to be complete by March 2011. During the construction of the temporary parking lot, the current Northwest Gate pay-and-display parking lot will remain open but will be accessible only from Steeles Avenue West. Once construction on the new lot is completed, the Northwest Gate access at Steeles Avenue West will be completely closed to accommodate long-term construction of the extension of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway.
