Monahan to give talk on achieving social change through law

Patrick Monahan (LLB ’80), one of Canada’s leading constitutional experts, will speak about achieving Patrick Monahansocial change through law, at a lunch-hour talk Tuesday in Vanier College.

Since he graduated from Harvard law school 30 years ago, Monahan has not only taught at Osgoode Hall Law School, but advised premiers and prime ministers, provincial and federal governments on economic, constitutional and international trade matters. He played a key role in the negotiation of the 1987 Meech Lake Accord.

Now York’s vice-president academic & provost, Monahan has also served as dean of Osgoode and director of the York University Centre for Public Law & Public Policy. He is a member of the board of directors of the Ontario Power Authority and recently served as founding chair of the Law Commission of Ontario.

Monahan has been invited to reflect on his experiences by the masters of Vanier and McLaughlin Colleges ata 12:30pm in 010 Vanier College. Everyone is welcome and a light lunch will be served.
