Tony award-winning Canadian musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, will hit the stage next month as part of Vanier College Productions’ 40th Anniversary Season.
The Drowsy Chaperone, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 1 to Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Fred Thury 
Studio Theatre, 258 Vanier College, Keele campus. Show times are Wednesday to Saturday at 8pm, plus Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm.
In addition, musical selections from The Drowsy Chaperone will be performed during Law.Arts.Culture, Osgoode Hall Law School’s Community Enhancement Forum, Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 12:30pm at the Gowlings Hall Mixing Area, Ignat Kaneff Building, Keele campus.
The musical, directed by Michael Yaneff with musical direction by Tom Kerr, and choreography and assistant direction by Alannah Garrett, takes the audience into the apartment of the “Man in Chair” as he goes through his record collection to escape his blues.
He finds his record, “The Drowsy Chaperone”, and the story comes to life inside his apartment. In a hilarious send-up of musical theatre from the 1920s, Robert Martin, a handsome bachelor, is about to marry Broadway star Janet Van De Graaff, who has to choose between him and the stage.
However, the producer Feldzieg will do all he can to stop the wedding from happening, so Van De Graaff can return to his Follies. With gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, an absent-minded old lady and her uptight British butler, a dimwitted yet surprisingly clever chorus girl, a high-strung best man, a Latin Lothario and a chaperone who spends more time drinking than chaperoning, the plot is full of hijinks and mistaken identities.
Tickets cost $20 for adults and $12 for students with student ID. Advance Tickets can be purchased online until 4pm on the day of the performance. Reservations can be made by calling ext. 40023 with your name, phone number, date of the show you want to attend and the number of tickets you want to reserve. Reservations are held until 15 minutes prior to the start time of the performance and must be paid for (cash only) when picked up.
