Despite all the sabre-rattling in current labour talks with its pilots, economics Professor Fred Lazar of York’s Schulich School of Business doesn’t believe Air Canada will impose a contract on them, reported the Toronto Star Feb. 9. If they did, he said, the worry is that it would become tied up at the labour board and rank-and-file pilots could wreak havoc with work-to-rule campaigns or random protest walkouts – right before the March break high-traffic period. Goldcorp boss Ian Telfer says gold to hit $5,000
Even though he invests in it himself, Moshe Milevsky, a finance professor at York’s Schulich School of Business, poured some cold water on miner Ian Telfer’s predictions about the price of gold reaching unheard of heights, in the Toronto Star Feb. 4. “He’s a bit of a cheerleader for gold, so you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt,” Milevsky said. Grammys 2012: Toronto promoter Elliott Lefko hits it big in LA
Former Toronto concert promoter and York grad Elliott Lefko (BA ’92), now a prominent executive at Los Angeles-based Goldenvoice, still covertly campaigns for the Canadian acts that capture his imagination, wrote The Canadian Press Feb. 9, in a preview of the Grammy Awards.
