PRISM for Pique: Online silent auction fundraiser for design grad exhibit

Prism Silent auction posterEach year the graduating class of the York University/Sheridan Institute Joint Program in Design (YSDN) takes the lead in producing their year-end exhibition. It is an enormous enterprise, with the graduates showcasing more than 500 creative works in communication, information and interactive design to the general public, friends, family and professionals in the industry. If their grand ambitions exceed the modest budget for the show, it is up to the students to make up the shortfall.

This year, the YSDN grad exhibition is titled Pique and it will be on view at the Fermenting Cellar at Toronto's historic Distillery District April 15 to 17.  To help underwrite the production costs, the student fundraising committee has organized PRISM: The Online Silent Auction. They’ve put many hours into collecting and photographing donated items, setting up the secure auction website and managing the promotions for the auction.

“We’re so appreciative of all the businesses and individuals who donated such amazing items to our silent auction,” said Jennifer Lee, fundraising committee co-executive. “And we’re really excited about this opportunity to reach out and build support for our exhibition. You can find us on Twitter and Facebook too.”

Items on the auction block include two Wacom Intuos4 Medium Pen tablets, student art and photography prints, jewelry, yoga packages, gift certificates and more. People are invited to view the items on the Prism Auction website and to put in their bids. Bidders must register with the site to place a bid. Major credit cards and paypal are accepted.

“We hope theYorkcommunity will browse through what’s on offer and support the cause,” said Lee. “Rest assured that 100 per cent of the proceeds of the auction will go towards the production of the York/Sheridan Pique Grad Show.”

The students have a goal of raising $5000 for Pique. The silent auction closes this Saturday, March 31 at 10pm.
