Register now to join Team York for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon set for October 14 and you will receive free group runs and training. Not only will you will also be making an important contribution to supporting York students, you will also have a chance at achieving a new personal best.
Each year, members of the York community, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends register to participate in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. In addition to providing a fun way to get fit and meet new friends, the run is a fundraiser for a bursary in support of students who use Counselling & Disability Services at York University.
With five kilometre, half marathon and full marathon courses, runners and walkers from beginners to seasoned experts can participate — and at a special registration rate. Team York members will pay a reduced fee of only $80 for the marathon and half marathon, or $40 for the five kilometre course. Team members will also receive free group training and clinics throughout the summer.
This year marks Team York’s fourth year participating in this event and organizers are thinking big as they look to raise $10,000 for the bursary. Here are some ways you can help the team reach its goal:
1. Register, select "Charity Challenge Runner" and “York University”. Once registered, you can set up your own online fundraising page. Note that team members must raise a minimum of $25. There is also a generous cash prize for the charity with the biggest team, so join today and spread the word!
2. Make a donation. Donations are tax deductible and online donors receive an automatic electronic tax receipt.
Don’t delay! Free run training for Team York members begins May 15 (that's today) at 12:10pm, at the main entrance of W128 Bennett Centre. There's another training session on Thursday, May 17 at 5:15, at the south entrance of the Tait McKenzie Centre. Training will take place every second week.
