While volunteering at the Ismaili Centre, Mohamed developed an interest in helping others. He hopes to become a social worker.

“We’ll see a change [in the public perception of epilepsy] if we reach out to people,” said Mohamed, “and I think the best way to do it is to reach out to the young people because young people would be most willing to make a change.”

Mohamed is one of eight recipients across Ontario to receive an award funded by Osler Business Consulting Ltd. Each applicant submitted a personal essay under the theme, “How Epilepsy has Shaped My Life.” Epilepsy is the second most common neurological disorder after headache and can develop at any age. One in 100 Canadians lives with epilepsy, including 1.4 million in Ontario.

The OBCL Continuing Studies Award encourages one applicant who is pursuing further post-secondary education.
