York alumnus raises more than $450K for bullied elderly bus monitor

Bullied to tears by teenagers on a school bus where she worked as a monitor, a New York state grandmother will be getting the vacation of a lifetime thanks to the fundraising efforts of a Toronto man. The episode, an illustration of the powers of the Internet to hurt and then redeem, began when Max Sidorov, who graduated from York with an honours BA in kinesiology from the Faculty of Health in 2009, saw a video of the bullying that had gone viral. Sidorov then went online to raise money to comfort the woman and, by early Friday, raised more than $450,000, reported The Globe and Mail, as well as the Toronto Star, the National Post, the Huffingtonpost.ca, and many others June 22.
