York’s Schulich School of Business has recently received European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation for a five-year period from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
“The EQUIS accreditation is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration,” said Dezsö Horváth, dean of York’s Schulich School of Business.

EQUIS has two levels of accreditation. Business schools that meet all the EQUIS quality standards are awarded EQUIS accreditation for five years. Those that meet the EQUIS standards, except in one or two of the quality dimensions, are awarded accreditation for three years.
“Institutions accredited by EQUIS must demonstrate not only high general quality in all dimensions of their activities, but also a high degree of internationalization. EQUIS also attaches a great degree of importance to schools having real-world relevance through close interaction with the corporate world,” said Horváth.
Schulich is one of 10 Canadian business schools and a total of 139 schools in 38 countries accredited by EQUIS, but of these, only 62 have attained five-year accreditation. More than one third of the schools accredited by EQUIS – 52 in total – are Schulich exchange partner schools.
“We have been working diligently for many years to enhance our strategic positioning, to continuously improve quality in all areas of our business school, and to expand our global footprint in order to establish Schulich as a leading centre of management education globally,” said Horváth. “The EQUIS accreditation provides additional third-party confirmation that our school's academic programs and research output are world-class.”
