York University’s Division of Continuing Education is collaborating this fall with Carson Dunlop, an engineering firm devoted exclusively to building inspections, to provide a new comprehensive career home inspection training program – to be offered completely online.
The learning content will be delivered in a highly visual and easy to understand format 
with a focus onpractical applied technical knowledge and learning giving students a solid foundation to build their career in the home inspection field.
“Home Inspection is a growing field and is evolving into a more professional industry,” says Marina De Bona, program & logistics manager in the Division of Continuing Education. “With an increasing demand for home inspectors, our non-credit professional development series is perfectly positioned to meet this growth.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about the program can attend one of two information sessions being on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Thursday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 7pm, at 304 Accolade West Building, Keele campus. RSVP to De Bona at mdebona@yorku.ca.
The 10-course Home Inspection Professional Development Series will cover all aspects of the home inspection profession, including roofing, structure, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and plumbing. The program meets the educational requirements for certification through the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors and incorporates the Standards of Practice of the American Society of Home Inspectors and the Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspection.
The focus will be on practical applied knowledge rather than theoretical discussion. To help students develop the necessary report writing skills, Carson Dunlop will provide students enrolled in 
the program with free use of its cloud-based report writing system, Horizon.
The Division of Continuing Education in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies offers part- and full-time non-credit courses, programs and certificates. It provides opportunities for people to enhance their professional qualifications in an increasingly competitive and rapidly changing labour market, by offering a broad spectrum of courses many of which are focused on areas of industry not traditionally served by the academic community.
The home inspection training program leverages Dunlop’s 34 years as a leading consulting engineering firm in the home inspection field, as well as its experience in the educational side of home inspection.
