photo of Dezo HorvathPresident & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has issued this fall welcome message and video to the York community:

Welcome to the new academic year at York University! This is going to be an exciting fall semester for the University, so please take the time to enjoy it.

Our incredible new Life Sciences Building is now open and I hope that you will enjoy this 160,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility. It boasts classrooms, offices, laboratories and research facilities designed to support the high-demand in science and health-related disciplines such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry and kinesiology.

But the Life Sciences Building is just one of the newly renovated sites at York. This past year we also celebrated the opening of the Osgoode Hall Law School building, and Glendon’s Centre of Excellence for French-Language and Bilingual Postsecondary Education.

Construction is well underway on the Spadina-York University subway extension, York Lanes is undergoing a major makeover, and work is commencing on the Pan Am Games stadium.

It is going to be a busy fall as we launch a brand campaign, create a safety awareness campaign and move forward on our new Lassonde School of Engineering.

Over the coming weeks, I am looking forward to meeting many of you at various events like orientation, the Terry Fox Run, YorkFest and Homecoming. I am also hosting an open Town Hall session on Tuesday, September 25, so I hope to see you there!

It is an exciting time to be at York, and I wish you all the best for a successful fall term.

(A few weeks ago, the President also issued an orientation video, filmed with the assistance of York's student ambassadors, to welcome new students to the University, click here to watch the video.)
