President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri was invited to deliver a keynote address to The Empire Club of Canada luncheon meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Shoukri's speech focused on the new economy, which is driven by knowledge and by knowledge workers, and the opportunities and challenges this new economy presents to postsecondary institutions around the world.
The imperative for Canada to compete in a global economy has gained momentum across all sectors over the last decade with significant intensification in new world economies like China, India and, most recently, Brazil. The ability to successfully conduct business in Canada and internationally relies on a global world view that is enabled through "The Endless Campus," says Shoukri.
His address, "The Endless Campus: How the Export of Education will Define our Future Economy and Workforce," explored how the export of Canadian education and the workforce of tomorrow will be the defining factor in whether organizations succeed for fail.
