Music, reading and food – that’s what the three winners of the York Cares United Way mid-campaign draw walked away with yesterday.
The first prize of an iPod Nano went to Martin Singer, dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Anna Pralat, quality assurance coordinator in the Office of the Vice-Provost Academic, won the second prize of the book, Las Nubes Conservation in the Cloud Forests of Costa Rica, while the third prize – Lunch for 2 at the Schulich Executive Dining Room – went to Sheelagh Atkinson, manager, Events & Ceremonials, Alumni Relations.

For those who have yet to donate, there is still time. Pledge at least $1/week or $52/year by 4pm on Friday, Nov. 23 to be entered into the final participation draw, which will occur at 9:30am, Nov. 28 at the Schulich French toast breakfast, for a chance to win the grand prize of two tickets to anywhere Air Canada flies, donated by York grad John F. Bankes (LLB/MBA ’77).
Other prizes will include an iPod Nano, donated by Data Integrity; a York University Golf Bag; “Lunch for 2” at the Schulich Executive Dining Room, donated by the Schulich Executive Learning Centre; a gift certificate valued at $25 at Michelangelo’s Cafeteria, donated by Michaelangelo’s; a gift certificate valued at $15 at the Orange Snail, donated by the Orange Snail; and a gift certificate valued at $10 at Country Style (Kosher) Deli.

On Thursday, Nov. 22, the Faculty of Health invites the York community to buy breakfast and lunch in Vari Hall in support of the York Cares United Way Campaign. From 8am to 2pm, $2 bagels, pizza for $3.50, sandwiches for $4 and coffee for $1.50 will be available. In addition, each purchase will entitle the buyer to enter their name into a draw for a lunch buffet for two at the Schulich Executive Dining Room, a $50 value. The event is sponsored by Michelangelo’s Restaurant, the Underground Restaurant, The Great Canadian Bagel and The Executive Learning Centre.

So far the participation rate for pledges has hit seven per cent toward this year’s goal of 12 per cent and more than $140,000 has been raised.
