There is a lot new happening this year at the annual Schulich French Toast Breakfast in support of the York Cares United Way Campaign.
The breakfast will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 8 to 11am, at the CIBC Marketplace in the Seymour Schulich Building, hosted by the Schulich School of Business. For the first time, there will be gluten free French toast available. French toast will be $2 and $1 for coffee or tea.
Some 35 volunteer students and staff are expected to help out at the event, whether dishing up the delectable sweet goodness of French toast or acting as ambassadors at the entrance of the Seymour Schulich Building and across campus.
Serving up a sweet treat of French toast
Sharon Chisholm, budget officer in the Office of the Executive Officer at the Schulich School of Business, says they are planning to dish out more than 240 servings of French toast this year and she hopes to see more faculty coming out to enjoy it. There will also be music to accompany the diners.
In addition, as the capstone event for the campaign this year, the final participation draw extravaganza will occur at 9:30am at the breakfast event. Those who have submitted their United Way pledge forms by 4pm on Friday, Nov. 23, and have pledged $1/week or $52/year, will be entered for a chance to win. Prizes will include two tickets to anywhere Air Canada flies, donated by York grad John F. Bankes (LLB/MBA ’77); an iPod Nano, donated by Data Integrity, as well as a York University Golf Bag; and “Lunch for 2” at the Schulich Executive Dining Room, donated by the Schulich Executive Learning Centre.
Plus, there will be draws for a gift certificate, valued at $25 for Michelangelo’s Cafeteria, donated by Michaelangelo’s; a gift certificate, valued at $15 for the Orange Snail, donated by the Orange Snail; and a gift certificate, valued at $10 for Country Style (Kosher) Deli.
The goal this year is to increase participation in pledges to 12 per cent. As of Friday, participation was at nine per cent with more than $150,000 raised for the United Way.
The Schulich French toast breakfast is sponsored by the Schulich Executive Learning Centre and The Promotion Specialists.
Every pledge to the United Way helps to build a city where every person is able to reach their full potential; a city where every neighbourhood is thriving; a city that is healthy today; a city poised for a bright future.
