Overnight construction on Keele Street extended until spring

Construction continues on Keele Street, from Finch Avenue West to Toro Road, for work associated with the construction of the southern subway tunnels. Work will include backfilling activities in the extraction shaft and the construction site on the northeast corner of Keele Street and Toro Road. During the work, there will be construction-related noise from trucks and equipment.

Backfilling activities have been extended and will continue to run intermittently overnight, weather permitting, until spring 2013 (excluding Sunday nights).

Normal working hours in the City of Toronto are 7am to 7pm, however, the city has approved a noise bylaw amendment for major transit projects. This allows contractors to perform overnight and weekend work for the duration of the project, when required, to minimize impact on the local community. Extended work hours are expected to occur in the Keele/Finch area.

Finch West Station construction work is permitted from 7am to 11pm, seven days per week.

Tunnel construction using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and related activities (including excavation) is permitted 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for safety and efficiency purposes.
